INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
About CoLang
The Institute on Collaborative Language Research, known as CoLang, is a biennial gathering for people to learn about language documentation, descriptive linguistics, and language revitalization. The Institute emphasizes community-based approaches to language revitalization and collaboration at all stages of this work — from designing documentation or teaching projects to activism or archiving materials for future use. CoLang aims to blur the lines between community and academia, learners and facilitators, and among areas of specialty. CoLang welcomes all people interested in community-based, collaborative language work.
About CoLang Web Committee
The CoLang Web Committee was established in 2020 to develop, manage, and maintain the digital presence of the CoLang Institute. The Committee is responsible for the public-facing website www.colanginstitute.org, and the internal collection and organization of organizing materials in the CoLang Repository. The Committee is responsible to the CoLang Advisory Council via the Colang Advisory Council’s Web Representative, and works closely with the Local Organizing Committee.
Spring 2024 CoLang Web Committee Intern
The CoLang Web Committee is accepting applications for a Spring 2024 Intern (May-July) to help with managing communications leading up to and during CoLang 2024 and facilitate the intake process for and the organization of the materials for the online repository after CoLang 2024 has concluded.
Our main goal in establishing the online repository is to support contributors and hosts in organizing effective institutes with the plan to serve a wider audience in the future by releasing appropriate workshop information for continued educational use with facilitator permission. These materials may include slideshows, example documents, and educational content of the workshop. This year, we are working toward creating a structure to expedite the process of collecting and storing materials created by facilitators who opt-in to this project. A brief video introducing the repository is available here.
We are seeking applicants with experience or interest in communications, conference participant support, open-source digital property, digital materials access, and familiarity with the field of Indigenous language reclamation. The internship is open to applicants physically located in the Phoenix metro area.
